Operations roles
Operations team members do everything from marketing to events to outreach to finance to communications. These opportunities let members build their pre-law community, engage with law students, lawyers, and advisors, and gain hands-on experience with the legal editorial process. These are unpaid volunteer roles that allow team members to strengthen their commitment to community, service, and civic engagement.
IT Associate
Develops and implements an IT strategy aligned with the organization’s goals, identifying technology solutions that enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Manage the website and create content for it.
- Collaborate with all departments so the website provides the information needed to represent the organization.
Communications Associate
Develops and implements a comprehensive communications strategy to enhance the organization’s reputation and visibility, identifying target audiences, key messaging, and appropriate channels.
- Collaborate with marketing, IT, newsletter, events, and campus ambassador leads to promote and organize opportunities, meetings, and events.
- Organize all email communications and the hiring process for operations roles.
- Help oversee the Campus Ambassador program alongside the Chief Campus Ambassador.
Marketing Associate
Develops and executes marketing strategies to enhance visibility, reach, and impact, aligning efforts with organizational goals and target audiences.
- Maintain a consistent brand identity and messaging across all channels and materials, including brand guidelines and standards.
- Use digital tools and platforms to expand online reach and engagement.
- Develop content for the website, blog, social media, and newsletters.
- Monitor and evaluate campaign performance and adjust as needed.
Newsletter Writer/Editor
Creates engaging and informative content for newsletters distributed to subscribers.
- Write articles, updates, announcements, and features aligned with organizational objectives.
- Research relevant topics and trends, and interview stakeholders, experts, and members for insights and quotes.
- Maintain a consistent writing style and tone, adapted to each section or theme.
- Review and edit content for clarity, grammar, spelling, and coherence.
- Help manage the content calendar, coordinate contributors, and meet delivery deadlines.
Finance/Sponsorship Associate
Develops and implements financial plans and budgets, monitoring performance to support fiscal health and sustainability.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement, and communicate findings to the board.
- Develop financial policies and procedures that promote transparency and accountability.
- Manage cash flow, including bank account monitoring, payment coordination, and projections.
- Develop financial strategies for fundraising campaigns and grant applications, with reporting to support decision-making.
- Maintain the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
PR/Partnerships Associate
Manages relationships with the public, media, and external partners to enhance reputation, visibility, and support.
- Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers, pitch stories, and respond to media inquiries.
- Create press releases, media kits, website updates, and other communication materials with consistent messaging and branding.
- Seek opportunities for collaboration, sponsorship, and partnership aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Develop partnership proposals and collaborate on joint initiatives.
Human Resources Associate
Works with department leads to identify volunteer needs and develop role descriptions.
- Advertise openings, screen resumes, conduct interviews, and take part in selection.
- Foster a positive environment through effective communication, conflict resolution, and volunteer engagement.
- Address volunteer concerns and grievances in line with organizational policies and legal requirements.
Events/Fundraising Associate
Conceptualizes and plans a diverse range of events that connect the community and align with the publication’s objectives.
- Collaborate with communications and marketing to develop event marketing strategies and host successful events.
- Plan largely virtual events, reflecting the organization’s reach from coast to coast.
- Create fundraising initiatives and coordinate fundraising events with the Chief Campus Ambassador.
Contributing to Operations
Operations work can involve planning, writing, coordination, technical support, outreach, budgeting, and other practical work needed to sustain a nonprofit organization and its legal-community programs.
